Question Lowly Newbie Question

I just picked up GW the other day and have been playing completely solo with henchmen.

I am at level 12.

I see all these posts about loot, armor, weapons and so forth.

Should I be grouping with others?

Is it a different loot table? Different quality drops?

How different is the strategy?

How many of those "other" players are 12 year olds?

I have no idea of the what the Guild aspect of the game offers.

What am I missing?

Grouping with real people compared to Henchman shouldn't really change the loot-table (in my opinion). The strategy is different in the fact that you don't have time to recharge your mana as the GODLY W/MO's rush straight ahead into mobs, not worrying about mana at all.

You are missing the chance to potentially have the best groups, but you are also missing the chance (much greater) of having horrible groups.

Some of the missions are very hard with henchman, so you should get some real-people-party experience before you get to ascension, as those missions are tougher with henchman (some might disagree).

1. Not really, because that's dependant on you. I liked to group in the beginning with real people. Apparently nice and real are qualities that don't mix too well anymore.

2. The loot is the same. You'll probably see a bit more, if only because you don't need to bring as many people since they're usually around the same level as you. Henchies are always a few levels below current baddies.

3. Strategy is dependant on the group and area. Most places in Ascalon, I just rush in and shoot. After that, I pull for groups. It's mostly dependant on how you want your team activity to work. Mostly though, don't let warriors just run out front. As good as their armor may be...hits from 3 different mobs that he's aggro'd are gonna kill him...and they'll be after you, soon enough.

4. If you're basing it on immaturity, quite a bit. Ask a few of us here to group with you. I can always try and help if I remember the quest, too. I like being helpful. Most people in this forum do too.

5. I have no clue. I'm running with no guild either. Just gotta find that right one, still.

IMHO Try and stick with henchies ,they never go afk ,walk the other way or keep u dead to steal your drops. All u are missing are lil 12 years saying "i'll get my ub3r l337 guild 2 pwn j00" if u make the smallest mistake. The only time i find real players better is when u need to keep npc alive and they stay with them always or when u on a quest/miss with lots of monster and u don't want to aggro stuff. The drops are the same except ALL fall for u. The money drops are same split with henchies and real players. Try and get a couple of ppl around your lvl (add to friends list)who are good players and stick with them for quests missons. Cuz theres nothing worse tha gettin to the head of sumthin like thunderhead keep and finding out the whole party don't know how to use calls!????

Thanks.

Just wanted to see if I had missed an entire aspect of the game.

I have found using henchmen to be difficult at times, but only usually because the AI seems to want to target the healer first and often. And the healer does not seem so smart at times.

After 2 years of UO(beta), and 6 of EQ, I don't mind dragging bots around so much.

Yeah, Alesia tends to think she's Stefan and runs in headlong. I don't think it'd kill Anet to recode her to stay as close to the edge of aggro as possible, instead of being in the middle of it. =P

So what functions will guilds perform?

Does it become more important at higher levels?

How do you find a mature guild?

1. Guilds don't do much, it is basically a way to get a semi-friend listing of people who are more inclined to help you with stuff. (this is all my opinion)

2. Meh, I don't really know

3. Very, Very hard to do (in my opinion, but haven't tried it). Try posting in the looking for guild area of the forums, or you could look through the groups you have in game, and see if any of the people you really like partying with have a guild. P.S. don't go with any guild that has members that advertises throught the chat. (GODLY GUILD WITH HALL AND LEET CAPES LOOKING FOR MEMBERS is a big nono.)

Ok, first of all that is a very stereotypical comment. I am personally twelve, and people say that alot. Not all of us think we are "T3H 00BER 1337 HAXXORS1!!!!111!11!". Sure, most of us do, but not all of us.. You could have just said "How many of those "other" players are immature"...

Ok, now to answer your questions..

1. Yes, because some quests are extremely difficult to do with just henches/alone (Like Althea's Ashes [I'm not sure if I got the name right])

2. If there is, I don't notice it =P

3. Most of the time there really isn't, except in the hard quests like I talked about in #1

4. It hasn't been too bad for me, but I haven't grouped much either yet (I'm still a noob =P)

5. Easier to find groups, and most of the pvp aspect of the game is nice with a guild

Ok and then your second post about the guilds..

1. Arnansnow answered this pretty well

2. PvP is alot easier with it, and most of your end-game is pvp (my opinion)

3. Look around, you can always leave a guild if you don't like it

I know these have already been answered, just adding my opinion

I believe she does that because she has healing touch, and she runs to Stefan or Little Thom and uses it instead of staying back and using it on the mages or herself. (I could be wrong)

It's an example age used in most comparisons. To be honest, if you are not that way, you are in the vast minority of that age group. I can usually pick the age of my groupmates within about 15 minutes. I have very seldom been wrong.

You should be one of those "guess your weight" in the amusement parks. You would make millions!

I mean no offense, and I am sure you are plenty mature ... from your perspective.

But I generally define mature as people that have mortages, car payments, insurance bills, ex-spouses, tired bones and balding pates.

Until you can claim any or all of those type "mature" responsibilities you are basically a "kid". A kid that probably has 24 hours non-stop to play an online game.
